“With Florilegium’s customary finesse and tonal beauty, they climbed the heights of dancing bliss and left the Wigmore sighing with pleasure”

The Times

“Florilegium are superb musicians – fine, incisive playing, honest, heartfelt and crisp... imaginative and individual playing. A final confirmation of the supremacy of the authentic approach, of which this ensemble are outstanding exponents.”

The Independent

‘A great disc! Florilegium have the Midas golden touch – everything sounds precious. They are great poets, magicians who will hypnotise your mind by the magic of their music, touching the very heart of your soul.”

Established in 1991 Florilegium is one of the finest period instrument ensembles around today performing intimate chamber works to large-scale orchestral and choral works in some of the world’s most prestigious venues and with a large and enviable prize-winning recording roster.

Haydn’s London Symphonies in chamber form owe their existence to the famous arranger Johann Peter Salomon who directed one of London’s leading series of subscription concerts from the 1780’s and persuaded Europe’s most famous composer to come to England for two extended periods in the 1790’s to conduct the new symphonies he had commissioned from him.

There was much demand for chamber versions of these wonderful works for the more intimate setting of the salon or chamber music room which Haydn entrusted to Salomon in which no note is omitted andn which show the wonderful underlying chamber feel of the works where the freedom of the small ensemble allows the sort of rhythmic flexibility, transparency and delicate textures which a full orchestra cannot really achieve.

Mozart’s Flute Quartets demonstrate another genre of chamber music of the period where unlike the string quartet the flute shares and complements the violin in charming conversation often swooning in the style of a vocal aria while the string team support the rich harmonic textures of these delightful works.
