The music is interspersed with readings about key historical moments as well as fascinating biographical details of the composers.

Vienna in the 19th century was an extraordinary city, a hotbed of musical creativity that nurtured world-renowned composers, but hidden under the apparently harmless mania for wine, women and song were germinating the seeds of social discontent that would trigger the First World War.

"Such an enjoyment of music-making with technically superb, charismatic playing, and – the audience’s delight is audible.... Emma Johnson’s Strauss numbers are as frothy as a glass of bubbly!” Gramophone

“In his book The Last Waltz: John Suchet skilfully portrays this gripping story, capturing the family dramas, the tensions, triumphs and disasters, all set against the turbulent backdrop of Austria in the 19th century, from revolution to regicide” Classic FM
