Hushed anticipation and spellbinding seasonal music fill the air, and the choir is enveloped in the soft glow of candlelight. Ex Cathedra perform a seamless sequence of Christmas favourites, little-known gems and gorgeous new music, interspersed with a selection of readings, to explore the magic, mystery – and humour – of the season.

This year’s programme includes a mix of music from composers through the ages, including a new edition of the 1591 favourite Coventry Carol, through to a contemporary piece by former Master of the Queen’s Music Dame Judith Weir. Liz Dilnot-Johnson, Ex Cathedra composer-in-residence, premieres her new work Ring out wild bells. Add a selection of readings that capture the mystery -and humour -of Christmas, and you won’t want to miss this popular, atmospheric concerts.
