Anthony Poon was born in Hong Kong in 1996. He started violin lessons at the age of 7. In 2010 he moved to England to study with Alex Laing in Uppingham School and in 2013, he was awarded the Champions' prize at the Pro Corda Chamber Music Festival.
Galin Ganchev was born in 1996 in Varna, Bulgaria to musical parents. In 2010 he was awarded a full music scholarship at Shrewsbury School and in 2012 won the Shropshire Young Musician of the Year competition.
In the period 2016-2021 they performed extensively in the Royal Academy of Music, in programmes consisting of repertoire from the classical era to 20th century works. During their time in the Academy, Anthony and Galin were mentored by Michael Dussek, Jack Liebeck and Ian Fountain. As a duo, they have also attended masterclasses by other internationally acclaimed musicians, such as Michael Foyle and Adrian Brendel.
In the Summer of 2021, the Duo was invited to present a recital programme of works by: Enescu’s “Impromptu Concertant”, Wieniawski’s “Faust Fantasy” and Schubert’s “Fantasy in C major, D 934”, in the Royal Academy of Music’s Summer Piano Festival, as well as in St James’ Piccadilly in London, UK.
In September 2021, the Perseus Duo won the Tunnell Trust Award, which has given them the opportunity of going on tour in Scotland in January, 2023. Concerts in the near future include recitals in Netherhall House (London), Danny House(West Sussex), Shrewsbury School (Shrewsbury), All Saints Isleworth Church (Isleworth) and St James’ Piccadilly (London), with programmes consisting of works by Mozart, Chausson, Dvorak and Brahms.
